Pomeranian

The smallest of the five German Spitz breeds and retaining a lot of the character of their larger cousins, Pomeranians make good watchdogs and can produce a shrill yapping that may deter intruders.  They need a daily walk or session of indoor play, and the thick double coat needs brushing once or twice a week.

Temperament

The intelligent and extroverted Pomeranian is an energetic dog, although it can be reserved toward strangers.

Appearance

A warm, soft undercoat is combined with a harsh outer coat that stands off the body and gives this breed a puffed-up appearance.  The coat is normally one color--orange, black, tan, cream, or white.  It has a small ruff, erect ears, and a tail that arches over the back and is carried flat.
