Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen

This short-legged, rough-coated scent hound was bred in the Vendee region of France to hunt small game over difficult and rough terrain. It is descended from the larger Grand Griffon Vendeen and was selectively bred to retain the fearlessness and energy of its larger ancestor.

Petit Basset Griffon Vendeens are alert and lively dogs; they have an independent streak but are generally eager to please and respond well to training.
Appearance
These dogs have long backs and short, straight legs. The rough , dense coat is lemon, tricolor, orange and white, or grizzled, and covers a softer undercoat. The head is twice as long as it is wide, covered with long hair that forms eyebrows and a beard around the jaws. Intelligent eyes are framed by long, pendulous ears. The body is stocky, with a deep chest and a strong, medium-length tail set high.

Things to Consider
These dogs may be prone to back problems due to the long back.
