Otterhound

As their name suggests, Otterhounds were bred in Britain specifically to hunt otters. Otters are comparatively rare today, and so is the Otterhound. These dogs are exceptional swimmers, and their scenting abilities are almost as good as those of Bloodhounds: They were able to dive into cold rivers to follow an otter's trail of bubbles for considerable distances.

Otterhounds are large dogs, with majestic heads and a dignified stance. A rough, shaggy topcoat in any hound color hides a soft undercoat that provides excellent weather protection. The back is slightly arched and the chest is deep with a well-sprung ribcage.
