Komondor

With their unusual corded coats, Komondors are distinctive dogs that have been used for centuries as herders and--even more so--as guardians of sheep and cattle flocks in their native Hungary. They are independent, strong animals. It is common for a working Komondor puppy to be raised with a flock of sheep, being sheared at the same time as its charges. Komondors are most suited to experienced dog owners with plenty of space.
Breed Category
Working Dog
Temperament
As companions, these dogs are courageous, territorial, and devoted, but they require training to socialize them from an early age.
Appearance
The Komondor's coat takes two years to grow to maturity and, once the heavy, white cords have grown to their full length, they need plenty of care. The dense coat covers the whole body from head to tail, providing exceptional protection against bad weather and rough conditions; the skin underneath is an interesting shade of gray. Komondors are substantial dogs, well-muscled, with great agility and power. They have deep chests, muscular necks, and strong jaws.
