Harrier

Harriers are descended from Beagles, Bloodhounds, and English Foxhounds.  They are robust, scenting pack animals, bred to hunt foxes and hares, and now popular as family pets.

Breed Category

Hound

Temperament

Harriers are outgoing, friendly animals that make affectionate pets.  They are good with children, though sometimes too boisterous for very young children, and are friendly with strangers.

Appearance

The Harrier appears similar to the English Foxhound, but smaller in size.  The head is slightly narrower than that of the Beagle, and the small, oval eyes provide good binocular vision.  The body is sturdy in build, with a short, dense coat, which is usually a combination of black, tan, and white.
