Bernese Mountain Dog

Gentle giants, Bernese Mountain Dogs were bred in Switzerland to pull carts and herd livestock.
Breed Category
Working Dog
Temperament
These dogs are friendly, confident, and alert, but they tend to be aloof with strangers. They are faithful and intelligent animals and fit in well with family life--as long as there is enough space.
Appearance
Bernese have glossy, long coats that are mainly black, with rust-colored and white markings. A white marking on the chest typically forms a Swiss cross. They are large, substantial dogs with robust limbs, strong, muscular necks, and large heads with a long, powerful muzzle. Dark brown eyes have a friendly, inquiring expression, and the medium-length ears hang close to the head. The tail is thick and bushy.
