Anatolian Shepherd Dog

Anatolian shepherds used their dogs to protect their flocks from wolves and other predators, not to herd them. The powerful Anatolian Shepherd Dog is descended from ancient mastiff-type dogs and is an excellent, territorial guard dog, but must be rigorously trained from an early age.
Breed Category
Working Dog
Temperament
They are intelligent and can be strong-willed, so they are not always reliable as companion dogs.
Appearance
Rugged and large, Anatolian Shepherd Dogs are impressive animals, built for endurance and speed. They are heavily built, with large heads, muscular, thick necks, and long backs. The coat can be any color and is rough with a thick, protective undercoat. Thick fur forms a ruff around the neck. The head is wide with a square muzzle, black lips, and neat, triangular ears that hang down. The tail is carried low and has a natural curl.
